The Woodlands’ #1 Residential Roof Replacement Company
Blue Truss holds both CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier and GAF Master Elite certification — the two highest manufacturer credentials in residential roofing. Less than 2% of contractors hold either one. We hold both. See the roof replacement cost in The Woodlands. Zero deposit. W-2 project manager on site every day.
Why Certifications Matter For Your Roof Replacement In The Woodlands
In Texas, anyone can legally call themselves a roofer and knock on your door after a storm. There are no statewide licensing requirements. This means the difference between a reputable contractor and a fly-by-night operation comes down entirely to what certifications and credentials they hold — and whether those credentials are manufacturer-verified, not self-reported. Knowing the signs you need a new roof is step one — choosing a credentialed contractor is step two.
Blue Truss holds the following verified certifications — each one independently issued by a manufacturer or third-party organization. Blue Truss is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier contractor — see the industry-best roofing products we install.
CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier
The highest certification CertainTeed awards to roofing contractors. ShingleMaster Premier contractors have demonstrated the highest level of product knowledge, installation expertise, and business standards — and are the only contractors authorized to offer the CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 5-STAR warranty, including the lifetime workmanship option on qualifying systems.
At least 75% of our installers are certified Master Craftsman Roofing Contractors. Our owner has passed the Business Fiscal Responsibility exam. We maintain a customer satisfaction rating of 4 or higher on a five-point scale — verified by CertainTeed’s Customer TrackRecord program.
GAF Master Elite
GAF’s highest honor — and contractors cannot apply for it. They must be invited. Only the top 2% of roofing contractors in the United States receive this invitation. As a GAF Master Elite contractor, Blue Truss qualifies for the GAF Golden Pledge warranty — 50-year non-prorated materials and up to 30-year workmanship coverage.
FORTIFIED Certified
Blue Truss is one of the few IBHS-certified FORTIFIED roofing contractors in The Woodlands area. FORTIFIED roofs are built to withstand severe weather — and homeowners may qualify for homeowner’s insurance premium discounts when upgrading to a FORTIFIED system. Ask us about eligibility at your free inspection.
RCAT Licensed — A+ BBB Accredited
Only about 10% of Texas roofing contractors hold voluntary RCAT licensing — the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Blue Truss founder Jason Howanec is fully RCAT licensed. We are also A+ BBB accredited and the #1 Best of The Woodlands Roofing Company 2026.

The 6 Components Of A Blue Truss Roof Replacement
Most homeowners only see the shingles. What’s underneath them — and how each layer is installed — is what determines how long your roof lasts, how well it performs in Texas storm conditions, and whether it qualifies for top-tier warranty coverage. For a deeper look at material performance specifically, see our guide to the best roofing materials for Texas.
At Blue Truss, we install a complete CertainTeed Integrity Roof System or GAF full roofing system on every job. Every component. Every layer. Here is what that means for your home:

1. Leak Barrier — Ice & Water Shield
The first line of defense against water intrusion. Self-adhering ice and water shield is installed at all vulnerable areas — valleys, eaves, around chimneys, pipe penetrations, and anywhere water can pool or back up. This is the step most budget contractors skip or substitute with felt paper. We don’t. Every Blue Truss installation includes ice and water shield at all vulnerable locations — standard on every job.

2. Roof Deck Protection — Synthetic Underlayment
A water-resistant protective layer installed over the entire roof deck, under the shingles. It acts as a secondary moisture barrier, protecting your home if water ever gets past the shingles. Blue Truss uses premium synthetic underlayment — not standard felt paper — for superior performance and longer-lasting protection in the Texas heat and humidity.

3. Starter Strip Shingles
Starter strip shingles are the first course installed along the eaves and rakes of your roof. They are specifically designed to work in combination with the field shingles above — providing a proper bond line and preventing wind-driven water from getting under the first row of shingles. Proper starter installation is a requirement for warranty coverage. We never skip it.

4. Premium Asphalt Shingles
The most visible component of your roof — and one of the most important. Blue Truss installs CertainTeed Landmark Pro, Grand Manor, and designer shingle lines, as well as GAF Timberline HDZ shingles — all premium products engineered for impact resistance, wind resistance, algae resistance, and long-term color stability in Texas climate conditions. For a direct product-level breakdown, see our GAF vs CertainTeed comparison — and why builder-grade vs premium shingles matters in Texas. We install with six nails per shingle — two more than the industry standard — for maximum hold and wind resistance.

5. Attic Ventilation
A properly ventilated roof performs better, lasts longer, and reduces your energy costs. Ridge vents combined with intake vents allow air to flow continuously under the roof deck — removing excess heat in the Texas summer, preventing moisture buildup year-round, and extending the life of your shingles. Inadequate ventilation is one of the leading causes of premature roof failure. We assess and address your ventilation on every installation.

6. Ridge Cap Shingles
The finishing component installed along the peak of your roof. Ridge cap shingles provide double-layer protection at the most exposed area of your roof — the ridge line — sealing against wind-driven rain and completing the weatherproofing system. We use manufacturer-matched ridge cap shingles on every installation for both performance and visual continuity.
How Blue Truss Does Roof Replacements Differently
The components above are what every quality roof replacement should include. What separates Blue Truss is how we install each one — and the additional steps we take that most contractors skip entirely. For a step-by-step walk-through, see our roof replacement process and our full roof replacement timeline.
Six Nails Per Shingle — Every Single Time
The roofing industry standard is four nails per shingle. Four nails give your shingles wiggle room — and in a Texas wind event, wiggle room becomes a blown-off shingle. Blue Truss uses six nails on every shingle, every time. It takes more time and more materials. We do it anyway because it is the right way to install a roof that is meant to last.
This installation practice is also a requirement for maximum wind warranty coverage. Four-nail installations typically carry lower wind speed ratings. Six-nail installations unlock the full wind warranty available on premium shingle lines.
Ice & Water Shield Beyond Code Requirements
Building code in Texas requires ice and water shield in certain locations. We go beyond code on every installation — placing ice and water shield in all valleys, around all penetrations, at all eaves, and at all wall intersections. The Texas climate — with its combination of extreme heat, severe hail, and wind-driven rain — demands more than minimum code compliance. Our installations are built for Texas conditions, not just for code inspectors.
All Changeable Flashing Replaced
Flashing — the metal pieces that seal your roof at walls, chimneys, vents, and other transitions — is one of the most common sources of roof leaks. Old flashing rusts, cracks, and pulls away from surfaces over time. Most contractors leave your old flashing in place when installing a new roof. We replace all changeable flashing on every installation. New flashing on a new roof means a complete system — not a new roof over old, compromised components.
Full Tear-Off — Never Over-Roof
Re-shingling over an existing roof is one of the most common shortcuts in the roofing industry. It is faster and cheaper — and it hides deck damage, traps moisture, adds unnecessary weight, and voids most manufacturer warranties. Blue Truss tears everything off on every job. We inspect the bare decking, address any rot or structural issues, and install your new roof system from the ground up. That is the only way to install a roof that will perform the way it is supposed to for the next 30 to 50 years.
W-2 Project Manager On Site Every Day
Many roofing companies assign a project manager who stops by at the start and end of a job. At Blue Truss, your dedicated W-2 project manager is on your property from the first nail to the final cleanup — every day. They are a full-time Blue Truss employee, not a subcontractor. They document progress with photos, communicate directly with you, and ensure every aspect of your installation meets our Golden Standard. When they leave, your roof has been inspected, your property has been cleaned, and you have the documentation you need.
Our Roof Replacement Products — CertainTeed & GAF
Blue Truss installs complete roofing systems from the two most trusted manufacturers in the industry. We do not mix brands, substitute components, or use builder-grade products. When you get a CertainTeed roof, you get a full CertainTeed system. When you get a GAF roof, you get a full GAF system.
CertainTeed — Our Primary Roofing System
CertainTeed is Blue Truss’s flagship roofing system. As ShingleMaster Premier certified installers, we install the full CertainTeed Integrity Roof System — Landmark Pro, Grand Manor, and designer shingle lines — backed by the CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 5-STAR warranty with up to lifetime workmanship coverage on qualifying systems. CertainTeed products are engineered for performance, durability, and the dimensional appearance that distinguishes premium homes in The Woodlands.
GAF — Master Elite Certified Installations
As GAF Master Elite certified contractors, Blue Truss installs GAF Timberline HDZ and premium GAF shingle lines backed by the GAF Golden Pledge warranty — 50-year non-prorated materials and up to 30-year workmanship coverage. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles are America’s best-selling shingle line, combining dimensional beauty with proven performance in high-wind and hail-prone markets like The Woodlands.

I can’t say enough good things about the solid job
I can’t say enough good things about the solid job Blue Truss Roofing did on replacing our roof. Our home is pretty new but unfortunately had a defective shingle issue that was thankfully caught before any real damage occurred. The people at Blue Truss guided us through the warranty process and made it painless for us to get resolved." If anyone has any work or concerns from recent storms don’t hesitate to give them a call to come out for an inspection.Huge thanks to Jason Howanec, Chris Doyle and Kelly Howanec 👍

I’m very happy with the end result.
Took a direct hit from the hailstorm on 5/12/2024 and reached out to Chris Doyle at Blue Truss. Chris was very honest in his assessment and I decided to file a claim with my insurance company. Chris and Blue Truss provided great support during the claim process and through to the installation today 6/12/2024. Whole process took exactly one month and I’m very happy with the end result.
If you are ever uncertain regarding having damage after a storm I strongly recommend Chris and the team at Blue Truss, honest and reliable.
